Don't Be a Dream Killer I've been told racism still exists.  I'm not sure why I've been told this or reminded of this.  When this info has been passed on to me it's come in one of two forms. ...

I Don’t Get Out Enough

Life, my life anyway, has really changed these last ten or so years. I seldom get out other than a food/drink run, pick up/drop off the kids, or yard/home related tasks. I need to make some new, local friends. My closest buddies have moved or live far enough away that it’s impractical to just swing by and hang for an hour. Seems like just hanging out with the fellahs takes a massive amount of planning. The planets have to be aligned just so. And there can’t be any pending events involving family, or home.

I’ve been out of work for over a year now but things are looking up on that front as my latest acquired ITIL® Certification have resulted in my receiving serious inquires. In fact I have a face to face sit down with one tomorrow (you may go ahead and wish me luck if so inclined. I could use the well wishes) and perhaps two more this week. Plus I’m super excited to attend my first convention in two weeks. It’s an annual event for ITSM professionals called Fusion ’11 I totally lucked out in that it’s taking place right here in DC. Finances are such that as much as the event would be beneficial to me both as an educational and networking opportunity I doubt I’d be able to swing it if it included airfare and a hotel stay.

Where was I? Oh yeah, I don’t get out much and lack buds to hang with. To me this means I need a new hobby. Back in the day, while living in NY I played darts on team and ran with the karoke crowd. Good times. Right now though I don’t think either are reasonable. I’d feel more than a little guilty going out to play darts a few nights a week leaving the wife and kids behind.

I was on my way to drop of my son at his Children’s center and spotted a guy alone off on one of the soccer parks we have here and immediately pulled a U-ey to see if I really saw what I thought I saw.

I think I found my new hobby. I know my kids all would approve.

(Firefox still doesn’t play nice with HTML5 tags so some may not be able to view the video clip of the model plane taking off. Sorry)

BTW, the voice you hear isn’t mine but Tim’s who was at the controls

What do you think? It’s a minor investment and from my childhood I recall having tons of nervous fun handling the controls of my friend’s model.
